Linkedin now has a Mid South ASPRS group. If you’ve been wanting to keep up with any news or information – please join. We’ll be posting information about the upcoming conference and student paper competition and any thing else that concerns the South East Chapter. I’m the maintainer of the group – if you have any problems please track me down and email me.

So for those of who who don’t know – I’m the 2nd VP of Mid South ASPRS (American Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing). Every year we try and hold a student paper and poster competition. This year it is at the Geospatial Conference that will be held in Athens Georgia October 19-22, 2010. Spread the word. Winners get some cash and a one year membership to ASPRS.

One of the conferences to keep on your radar is this one – the 2010 Geospatial Conference.
Since conference attendance has hit a bit of a lull all over the place GA URISA has opened up the conference to several other organizations. So far SAMSOG, Mid South ASPRS, and Southeast GITA have joined in the fun. The conference will be held in Athens Georgia at the UGA Conference center. The theme is “Partnering for Success”. If you look at mapping over the last few years – really that’s what it’s about. You have GIS folk, Surveyors, and Photogrammetrists all starting to cross paths. We’re all doing a little bit of each others jobs. Good or bad – that is the way it is and we all need to start working toward a common goal of good data – and in the words of Rodney King “Can’t we all just get along”.
We’ve got two keynote speakers each day:
- Brent Jones – Survey, Cadastre, and Engineering Industry Manager for ESRI. Combining all the GIS and land development technologies that exist today is what Brent Jones will explain to surveyors and GIS professional in his keynote address. Brent is a well known speaker with real-world, hands-on experience in surveying and geospatial technologies.
- Joel Campbell – President, ERDAS Inc. With over 20 years of experience in the geospatial industry, Campbell is a well known and highly regarded speaker, lecturer and trainer throughout the world. Previous employers include GeoEye, Definiens, EarthData and ESRI.
The conference is Tuesday October 19 through Friday October 22nd. Tuesday will be workshops – and if you have a suggestion please send us an email. The social looks like it’s shaping up to be a Casino night (I’m on the planning committee )
Don’t think that this is a Georgia thing – all are invited. I’ll see you there.
